CLUB HISTORY

FOUNDATION & EARLY YEARS

Real Madrid was officially founded on March 6, 1902, as Madrid Football Club. The club was granted the title "Real" (Royal) by King Alfonso XIII in 1920. In its early years, the club dominated regional football, winning 18 Regional Championships between 1903-1931.

EUROPEAN DOMINANCE

Real Madrid has won a record 15 UEFA Champions League titles, including the first five consecutive competitions (1956-1960). The team of the 1950s, featuring Alfredo Di Stéfano, Ferenc Puskás, and Francisco Gento, is considered one of the greatest in football history. The club also won 2 UEFA Cups (1985, 1986) and 6 European Super Cups (2002, 2014, 2016, 2017, 2022, 2024).

DOMESTIC SUCCESS

The club has won 36 La Liga titles (most in Spain), including 5 consecutive titles from 1986-1990. Real Madrid also holds 20 Copa del Rey trophies, 13 Spanish Super Cups, and 1 League Cup. The team completed a domestic double (La Liga and Copa del Rey) in 2022-23.

GLOBAL RECOGNITION

In 2000, FIFA named Real Madrid the "Club of the 20th Century". The club has won 9 FIFA Club World Cups (record), 2 Latin Cups (1955, 1957), and 2 Mini World Cups (1952, 1956). The Galácticos era (2000s) featured stars like Zidane, Ronaldo, and Beckham, while the recent era saw Cristiano Ronaldo lead the team to 4 UCL titles in 5 years (2014-2018).
